Amie’s Top 3 Smoothies
By Amie Ellis, Zumba instructor at Soul Studio.
Smoothies are my favorite way to pack in lots of vegetables for my day! They pack a huge nutrition and energy punch. Here are 3 of my and my kids favorites!
1. Green Smoothie – add to 1 cup of water
1/2 head Romaine Lettuce
1 cup Kale
2 cups Spinach
2 Celery stalks
1/2 Lemon (peel on has extra nutritional value but will add a slight bitter taste)
1/2 an apple
1 pear (I like anjou)
A good handful of Cilantro
This recipe makes enough for 2 glasses. I like to keep 1 in the fridge for the afternoon and have 1 for breakfast.
2. Berry Smoothie – add to 1 cup of water
1 Tbsp Ground Flax
1 Tbsp Natural Peanut Butter
3 Tbsp Greek Yogurt (I like Honey or Plain)
1/4 cup frozen Cherries
1/2 cup frozen berry mix
1.5 cups greens of your choice (I am using a smoothie blend from Costco this week with chard, broccoli, beets greens, kale and carrots)
Honey or Pure Maple Syrup to taste
Add 1/4 cup of dry oats to this smoothie and it makes a perfect breakfast!
3. Creamy Mango Tango Copycat
1 cup Unsweetened Coconut Milk
1 Avocado
1 scoop plain Greens Plus
1/4 cup Vanilla Greek yogurt
1.5 cups frozen Mangos
Honey to taste (I like about .5 a Tbsp)
This is my kids favorite!
As with most smoothies, you may need to add some extra liquid, especially if you prefer a more runny consistency.
